Conductivity Measurement

Conductivity is the ability of a solution to conduct an electric current between two electrodes across the surface area or distance between the cell electrodes by the resistance of the measured solution, the level of concentration of dissolved ionic species plus weak and strong electrolytes change the electrical current therefore an high concentration of ions in the solution will result in a fast current and higher conductivity values and a slower electrical current indicates lower concentration of ions are present in the solution indicating lower conductivity values.
Conductivity systems are used routinely in many industrial water treatment and environmental applications as a fast and inexpensive reliable way of measuring the total dissolved solids (T.D.S) content in a solution, applications include public water supplies, irrigation systems, brewing industry, industrial boilers, wastewater and cooling tower systems.
